Claude Pro Plan (2026): Price in USD + AUD, Limits, and Is It Worth It?
by Sandlabs Team, Founder, Sandlabs
Quick answer. Claude Pro costs US$20 a month, or US$17 a month on annual billing (US$200 up front), before tax. Viewed from Australia, Anthropic now lists it in AUD with GST included: A$34 a month, or A$28 a month on annual billing (A$340 up front). Pro adds Claude Code, Opus, Research, unlimited Projects, and Claude in Chrome and Microsoft 365, with at least 5× the Free plan's usage per five-hour session and a weekly limit on top. For anyone using Claude for real work a few times a week it is worth it: against a A$120/hour loaded staff cost it pays for itself after 17 minutes saved a month. It is the wrong plan if you only use Claude occasionally (stay on Free), if you run Claude Code most days (Max), or if two or more people need it for work (Team).
Every figure below was checked against Anthropic's live pricing page and help centre on 20 October 2026.
Pro is the plan most people start on, and the one we most often see bought for the wrong reason - either by someone who would be fine on Free, or by a business that has quietly ended up with five personal Pro subscriptions on five credit cards. Here is what it costs, what it actually gets you, and where it stops being the right answer.
What Claude Pro costs
| Monthly | Annual billing | |
|---|---|---|
| United States (USD, excl. tax) | US$20/month | US$17/month (US$200 up front) |
| Australia (AUD, incl. GST) | A$34/month | A$28/month (A$340 up front) |
| Australia, ex-GST equivalent | ~A$30.91 | ~A$25.76 (~A$309 a year) |
| Annual saving | - | About 17% (US$40 or A$68 a year) |
Australia now sees AUD. Until recently Pro was billed in USD with GST added at checkout. From Australia, Anthropic's pricing page now shows Pro in AUD with "Prices include 10% GST", which also means no foreign transaction fee for new subscribers. More on what that changes in the Australian section below.
New Zealand and other regions. Anthropic's help centre says Pro is priced in local currency where supported, and that some regions include tax in the displayed price while others add it at checkout. Check claude.ai/upgrade from where you are for the exact figure.
Buying through the app store is different. If you subscribe through the iOS or Android app, Apple or Google bills you and Anthropic does not issue the invoice. If you need a proper invoice for your books, subscribe on the web.
What you get with Claude Pro
The Free plan is more capable than most people assume: it already includes web search, file creation and code execution, memory, Artifacts, Skills, connectors, and Claude Design, Slides and Docs. So Pro is mostly about more usage, better models and Claude Code.
Over Free, Pro adds:
- More usage: at least 5× Free per five-hour session, plus a weekly limit.
- Claude Code in the terminal and in VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains IDEs, sharing the same usage pool.
- Opus 5.5 alongside Sonnet and Haiku. Fable, Anthropic's top model, is available on Pro only by paying for it through usage credits.
- Research, unlimited Projects (Free is capped at five), Claude Science and Claude Dashboards (beta).
- Claude in Chrome, Microsoft 365 and Outlook.
- Hand-off and scheduled tasks.
- Usage credits, so you can keep working past a limit at standard API rates.
What Pro does not include:
- API access. Pro does not cover API usage through the Claude Console, and unlike Max and Team it comes with no monthly API credits.
- Team features. No shared Projects, admin console, SSO or central billing.
- Training off by default. On Pro, model training on your content is opt-out: it is on unless you turn it off in your privacy settings. Team and Enterprise exclude your content from training by default.
How Claude Pro limits work
There is no message count. Anthropic meters usage in tokens, and what counts is your message, the whole conversation replayed as context, any Project files, the output Claude writes, and any tool or connector results.
Pro runs on two limits at once:
- A five-hour session window that starts with your first message, not on a fixed clock.
- A weekly limit across all models, which resets at a fixed day and time assigned to your account. You can see it under Settings → Usage.
Claude Code and your Claude chats draw from the same pool, and Anthropic reserves the right to apply other caps at its discretion. When you hit a limit you can wait for the reset, upgrade to Max, or turn on usage credits and keep going at API rates.
What that means in practice, from the deployments we run: Pro comfortably supports one person doing a few hours of Claude work a day on Sonnet, and noticeably less if they default to Opus, run 40-turn threads and keep big Projects attached. In Claude Code, Pro is good for a few focused sessions a week; daily agentic coding hits the five-hour cap.
Our Claude usage limits guide covers what burns your allowance and the habits that stretch it.
Is Claude Pro worth it?
For most people who use Claude for work, yes, and the maths is not close.
Take a loaded cost of A$120 an hour for a mid-level professional in an Australian small business, salary plus on-costs.
| Plan | Monthly cost (AUD, incl. GST) | Time saved to break even |
|---|---|---|
| Pro, monthly | A$34 | ~17 minutes a month |
| Pro, annual | A$28 | ~14 minutes a month |
| Max 5× | A$170 | ~85 minutes a month |
In US terms, US$20 against a US$75/hour loaded cost breaks even at 16 minutes a month.
Pro is worth it for:
- The daily knowledge worker - drafting, analysis, research and document review most days, and hitting the Free limit by mid-morning.
- The part-time developer who wants Claude Code for a few sessions a week without paying for Max.
- The owner-operator running quotes, client emails and admin through Claude across the day.
- Anyone trialling Claude before a team rollout. One Pro seat for a month tells you more than any comparison article, including this one.
Pro is not worth it if:
- You use Claude a few times a week. Free covers occasional questions, and its five-hour allowance resets on its own.
- You run Claude Code most working days. You will spend real time waiting for resets. Max 5× is the floor; our Claude Code pricing guide has the plan-by-plan detail.
- Two or more people need it for work. Team costs A$9 more per seat a month (A$6 on annual billing) and adds the controls a business actually needs - see below.
- You handle sensitive client data. Pro is a consumer plan with training on by default. For client data, start from Team or Enterprise and a written data policy.
Claude Pro vs Max
| Pro | Max 5× | Max 20× | |
|---|---|---|---|
| USD | $20/mo ($17 annual) | $100/mo | $200/mo |
| AUD (incl. GST) | A$34/mo (A$28 annual) | A$170/mo | A$340/mo |
| Usage per five-hour session | At least 5× Free | 5× Pro | 20× Pro |
| Fable | Usage credits only | Up to 50% of weekly limit | Up to 50% of weekly limit |
| Monthly API credits | None | US$100 | US$200 |
| Priority access at peak times | No | Yes | Yes |
| Higher output limits | No | Yes | Yes |
| Billing | Monthly or annual | Monthly only | Monthly only |
| Claude Code fit | Occasional | Daily | Continuous |
Move from Pro to Max when you hit the five-hour limit more than twice a week on work you cannot restructure, or when Claude Code becomes a daily tool. Before you do, try the free fixes: a new conversation per task, Sonnet as your default, and leaner Projects resolve most limit complaints.
Upgrading mid-cycle resets your billing date and charges a full month of Max, less the unused value of your Pro month. Our Is Claude Max worth it? breakdown covers whether 5× or 20× is right, and the break-even maths in detail.
Claude Pro vs Team for a business
Team Standard seats cost A$43 a month, or A$34 on annual billing (US$25 or US$20), with a 2-seat minimum and up to 150 seats.
For A$9 a seat more than monthly Pro, Team adds central billing and one invoice, an admin console, SSO, shared Projects, organisation-wide Skills, no model training on your content by default, more usage than Pro per seat, and US$20 a seat in pooled monthly API credits. Premium seats (A$213, or A$170 annual) give the heavy users 5× a Standard seat.
The sharpest comparison is a two-person business. Two Team Standard seats on annual billing cost A$68 a month, exactly the same as two monthly Pro subscriptions - and you get the governance for free. If you are three or four people expensing personal Pro seats, you are paying more for less control. Our Claude Team vs. Enterprise guide covers the business plans and where your data goes.
Monthly or annual?
Annual billing saves about 17% and is charged once up front. You can switch from monthly to annual in Settings → Billing, and any unused time on your monthly plan is credited toward the first annual invoice.
The catch is that payments are generally non-refundable, except where Anthropic's consumer terms or local law require otherwise. So the sensible order is: run Pro monthly for a month or two, confirm it is Pro you need rather than Max or Team, then switch to annual. Max is monthly-only, so if you suspect you will outgrow Pro within the year, stay monthly.
Buying Claude Pro from Australia
New subscriptions are in AUD with GST included. A$34 a month or A$340 a year is the price you pay, with no currency conversion and no foreign transaction fee.
Older subscriptions may still be in USD. Anthropic's invoice help says existing subscribers can keep an older currency, and that moving to the current one means letting the plan end at the close of its term and buying again. On USD billing, your card converts US$20 plus GST at the day's rate and usually adds a 2-3% fee, so the AUD price is slightly cheaper for most people.
Check the ABN position before you switch. Checkout still has a tax ID field. On USD billing, entering an ABN stopped Anthropic charging GST, so a GST-registered business with an ABN already on a USD subscription may be paying less than A$34 today. Whether the ABN takes 10% off an AUD price that includes GST is something to confirm on your first AUD invoice. Our Claude GST guide covers the rules and the BAS treatment.
Buy on the web if you need an invoice. App store subscriptions are invoiced by Apple or Google, not Anthropic.

How much is Claude Pro?
Claude Pro costs US$20 a month, or US$17 a month on annual billing with US$200 paid up front, before tax. Anthropic prices Pro in local currency where supported; viewed from Australia it is A$34 a month or A$28 a month on annual billing (A$340 up front), with GST included. Pro includes Claude Code, Opus, Research, unlimited Projects and at least 5× the Free plan's usage per five-hour session.
How much is Claude Pro in Australia?
Viewed from Australia, Anthropic lists Claude Pro at A$34 a month, or A$28 a month on annual billing (A$340 a year), with 10% GST included. That is roughly A$30.91 a month before GST. New subscribers pay in AUD with no foreign transaction fee. Subscriptions that started in USD can stay in USD until they lapse and are bought again, and on USD billing entering an ABN removed GST, so check your invoice before switching.
Is Claude Pro worth it?
For anyone using Claude for real work a few times a week, yes. Against a A$120 per hour loaded staff cost, Pro at A$34 a month pays for itself after about 17 minutes saved a month. It is not worth it for occasional users, who are well served by the Free plan; for people running Claude Code most working days, who need Max; or for businesses with two or more users, where a Team plan adds admin, SSO, shared Projects and no training by default for a few dollars more per seat.
What are the Claude Pro usage limits?
Claude Pro has no fixed message count. Usage is metered in tokens across a rolling five-hour session window that starts with your first message, plus a weekly limit across all models that resets at a fixed time assigned to your account. Pro gives at least 5× the Free plan's usage per session, and Claude Code shares the same pool as your chats. When you hit a limit you can wait, upgrade to Max, or turn on usage credits billed at standard API rates.
What is the difference between Claude Pro and Max?
Max gives 5× or 20× Pro's usage per five-hour session for US$100 or US$200 a month (A$170 or A$340 including GST from Australia), plus Fable up to 50% of the weekly limit, priority access at peak times, higher output limits and US$100 or US$200 a month in API credits. Pro is US$20 a month and can be billed annually; Max is monthly only. Move up when you hit Pro limits more than twice a week on work you cannot restructure, or when Claude Code becomes a daily tool.
Does Claude Pro include Claude Code?
Yes. Claude Code is included with Pro at no extra cost, in the terminal and in supported IDEs such as VS Code, Cursor and JetBrains. It shares the same five-hour and weekly limits as your Claude chats, which comfortably supports a few focused coding sessions a week. Daily agentic coding usually needs Max 5× or a Team Premium seat.
Does Claude Pro include API access?
No. Pro covers Claude on web, desktop and mobile plus Claude Code, but API usage through the Claude Console is billed separately at per-token rates. Unlike Max and Team plans, Pro also does not include monthly API credits. If you have an ANTHROPIC_API_KEY environment variable set, Claude Code will bill that API key instead of using your Pro plan, so unset it if you want to stay on your subscription.
Is Claude Pro or Team better for a small business?
For two or more people, Team. A Team Standard seat costs A$43 a month or A$34 on annual billing including GST (US$25 or US$20), with a 2-seat minimum. Two annual Team seats cost the same A$68 a month as two monthly Pro subscriptions, and Team adds central billing, an admin console, SSO, shared Projects, more usage than Pro per seat, pooled API credits and no model training on your content by default.
Can I cancel Claude Pro or get a refund?
Pro renews automatically until you cancel it. Anthropic says payments are generally non-refundable except where its consumer terms or local law require otherwise; customers outside Europe can check eligibility by opening Get help in Claude and choosing Claude Refund Request, and app store subscriptions are refunded through Apple or Google. Because of this, run Pro monthly for a month or two before switching to annual billing.
